GANGTOK,: Fourteen women achievers in various fields were presented with the
‘Sarojini Naidu Women Achievers Award 2023’ by Himalaya Darpan in association with
Techno India Group World School during an event held here at Janta Bhawan on
Tuesday.
Education
minister KN Lepcha handed away the awards along with State OBC commission
chairperson Pabitra Bhandari, GMC councillor Kala Rai, social worker-senior
architect Kiran Rasaily and Techno India Group vice president Bhaskar Roy.
The
awardees were singer Bimala Pradhan, poet Deepa Rai, educationist Jempandi
Norzum Targain, Little Champs winner Jetsen Dohna Lama, environmentalist
Mayalmit Lepcha, actress Meena Goutam, mountaineer Manita Pradhan, journalist Nita
Nirash, social worker Pasangkit Lepcha, RJ Priyanka Tamang, international
paraglider Rinzing Doma Bhutia, social entrepreneur Sandhya Subba, international
taekwondo player Sulochana Limboo and entrepreneur Sunita Gadaily.
In
his address, the Education minister lauded the initiative of Himalaya Darpan
and Techno India Group to recognize the women achievers from Sikkim who have
been contributing for women empowerment. The dedication and achievements of the
women felicitated today paves way for empowerment of all women, he expressed.
Lepcha
also spoke about the schemes introduced by the State government for welfare and
empowerment of women in Sikkim.
Himalaya
Darpan executive director Prajwal Chaudhary shared that the award initiative
was to honour the tireless endeavours and achievements of women from Sikkim in
various fields.
Techno
India Group vice president Bhaskar Roy mentioned that the group works in
various sectors but its core is education field with several schools,
universities and technical institutions under it. “We have begun a premium
school for girl children with all the facilities, curriculum and other
activities involved in the school. The education sector today is a diverse
sector and we need to keep pace with the national as well as global changes and
adapt accordingly so that our students do not fall behind,” he said.
