Himalayan Fashion Week 2025 celebrates culture and style in Sikkim

GANGTOK,: The streets of MG Marg came alive on Saturday as the second edition of the Himalayan Fashion Week unfolded in a spectacular display of style and culture. The event had former MLA Krishna Kumari Rai as the chief guest and Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa as the guest of honour.

The event showcased a vibrant mix of traditional and contemporary fashion, with talented designers from Sikkim and beyond, offering a unique fusion of cultural heritage with modern aesthetics.

The fashion week kicked off with an elegant display by Cozee Apparel and Loungewear, curated by Rachna Pradhan, a nationally recognized designer. Their collection blended comfort and tradition together. They also announced the launch of their physical store at Deorali, Gangtok. The showstopper was Akash Pradhan, Mr. Tourism Globe International 1st runner-up, Mega Master Sikkim 2023 and GMI Mr. India 2023.

Following this, the kids' fashion show segment took centre stage, featuring young models dressed in traditional and western outfits curated by Namza Boutique by designer Pema Bhutia. The audiences were charmed by the knit and wear round, where young models wore knitted outfits by designer Nima Gurung, adding an extra touch of delight to the show.

Designers from Imphal, Manipur, also brought a rich cultural flair to the runway, presenting collections that paid tribute to the artisans of Manipur. Designer Suresh Arubam showcased an exquisite line of traditional Manipuri ensembles, with showstopper Sneha Tamang, Miss Teen Sikkim 2022 and Miss Teen India Sikkim (Fashion Icon), adding elegance to the collection.

Designer DK Dapper presented a collection of traditional Manipuri attires, with showstopper Sudeshna Rai, Miss Sikkim Top Model 2022, embodying the spirit of the designs. Her performance left the audience mesmerized by the beauty and artistry of Manipur’s cultural heritage.

Madhu Rai from Bagdogra, Siliguri showcased a stunning collection titled Legacy, featuring traditional print fabrics. The collection’s elegance was amplified by showstopper Jerina Gurung, a renowned actor and model from the Nepali film industry, who captivated the audience with her charm and grace.

The spotlight then shifted to Posh Boutique, one of the associate partners for the Himalayan Fashion Week. Designer Kabita Tamang’s Indo-Western collection was a perfect blend of sophistication and creativity, merging traditional and modern styles. Showstopper Yodenla Bhutia, Miss Universe Sikkim 2nd Runner-Up, added glamour and poise to the runway, elevating the collection’s charm.

The final collection of the evening was presented by Kunsel Creations, the event’s organizers. The collection beautifully blended Sikkim's traditional elements with contemporary designs, creating a unique fusion of old and new. Designer Binita Gurung’s creations showcased this harmonious balance, with showstopper Assim Gurung bringing the collection to life with added elegance and charm.

The event was choreographed by internationally recognized fashion designer and choreographer Prasantt Ghosh with assistant choreographer Sapna Pradhan.

In her address, chief guest Krishna Kumari Rai commended the organizers for creating a platform that celebrates the rich and diverse cultures of the Northeast while promoting the region's evolving fashion trends. She emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage while fostering innovation within the fashion industry.

The audience also witnessed a spectacular performance by talented local artist duo ODZER and C. Young, along with a special guest performance by Sushma Gurung, the founder of Sushma Productions.

Also present were deputy mayor Tshering Palden Bhutia, SKM Nari Shakti (Namchi) vice president in-charge Rama Tamang and Sikkim Express editor Amit Patro.
