Minister Upreti inaugurates Bailey bridge in Dentam, Begha village administrative centre

GANGTOK,: Rural Development minister Arun Kumar Upreti today inaugurated a long-span Bailey bridge constructed over Dentam Khola under Maneybung-Dentam constituency in West Sikkim. 

The bridge was constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.11 crore under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The project fulfils a long-standing demand of the people, as the bridge serves as a vital connectivity link for several places falling under Dentam and Geyzing.

Now operational, the new bridge is expected to ensure safer, smoother, and more efficient transportation while significantly improving access to government services and boosting connectivity for the residents of the region.

Upreti also inaugurated a village administrative centre at rural Begha Gram Panchayat Unit. 

In his brief address, Upreti said that the establishment of any public infrastructure is beneficial to the people and congratulated the people of Dentam for the new infrastructure set up by the state government. He maintained that, due to the farsighted vision and mission of Chief Minister P.S. Golay, the establishment of infrastructure according to the needs of the public has been prioritised across Sikkim.

Reiterating the commitment of the SKM government, Upreti said that transformation and necessary development in all public sectors have been given topmost priority.

Emphasising the need to maintain high quality standards in the implementation of public infrastructure projects, Upreti appreciated the quality of work executed in the construction of the village administration centre at Begha.

"The public welfare projects must be of the highest quality and free from any compromise. I am pleased that the village administration centre at Begha has been beautifully constructed," he said.

He maintained that the public should benefit from the public welfare projects implemented by the government.

Upreti also elaborated on the tourism prospects of West Sikkim and the need to promote and further develop the tourism sector in the region. Stating that tourism offers immense potential, Upreti emphasized the importance of collective public participation, efficient tourism management, and the exploration of new avenues and opportunities to strengthen the sector.

Upreti informed the gathering about the upcoming gram panchayat election and shared that he had a meeting with the higher authority of the Department of Panchayati Raj. He maintained that the party would make its stand clear regarding the gram panchayat election in the upcoming days.

Area MLA Sudesh Kumar Limboo, in his address, thanked the State government for recognizing the need for infrastructural development in Dentam. He stated that the developmental initiatives would significantly benefit the people of the Maneybung-Dentam constituency and contribute to the region's overall progress.
