MP Indra Hang discusses PMGSY, MGNREGA issues with Union minister Paswan

GANGTOK, : Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba met with Kamlesh Paswan, Minister of State for Rural Development, in New Delhi today. They discussed the pressing issues related to Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Sikkim, informs a press release.

The Lok Sabha MP highlighted the unique challenges faced by Sikkim and other Himalayan regions under these schemes. He pointed out the significant disparity in costs for building infrastructure in the hills compared to the plains.

The tough terrain increases the cost and effort needed to construct strong and durable roads. For example, building a road in the hills costs much more than building the same road in the plains, the MP explained.

Given these difficulties, the MP requested that the rules be adjusted to provide more financial support to hilly areas. Additionally, he emphasized the need for more time to complete infrastructure projects in these regions, as the harsh and unpredictable terrain often causes unavoidable delays beyond control, the release mentions.

Minister Paswan listened attentively to these concerns and assured the MP that he would call a meeting to discuss these issues in detail with higher authorities and concerned departments. “His commitment to addressing these challenges gives hope that the necessary concessions and support will be provided to ensure the successful implementation of PMGSY and MGNREGA in Sikkim and other Himalayan regions,” the release adds.
