GANGTOK, : Three candidates for Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections
withdrew their nominations on Thursday leaving only Diesel Power House (DPH) as
the ward that could see polls.
SKM
candidate Avisek Sharma withdrew his candidature from DPH ward which also has a
BJP candidate and an independent candidate.
The
independent candidate for Arithang-I ward also withdrew his candidature that
makes the SKM candidate as the sole contestant there.
Similarly,
BJP candidate Pempo Dorjee Lepcha has withdrawn his nomination from Tadong
seat. Tadong ward is now uncontested with the SKM nominee as the lone candidate
there.
The
last date for withdrawal of nomination is April 4 and so far, only DPH has two
candidates in contest.
Twenty
wards of GMC have gone uncontested to the SKM while BJP face contest in DPH
ward from an independent candidate.
In
Singtam Nagar Panchayat election, the SKM withdrew its nominee for Pipal Dara
ward. This development leaves BJP candidate Rajani Singh Cintury as the lone
candidate in Pipal Dara ward. The other four wards have only SKM candidates and
are already uncontested.
