About 350 shots of oxygen can be given to a person from a single portable cylinder
GANGTOK,: Gangtok-based start-up O2 Himalaya is set to launch a portable oxygen canister that offers at least 350 puffs, with tourists and locals alike who visit higher altitudes of Sikkim as their target consumers.
The O2 Himalaya portable oxygen cylinder acts as a first aid care and provides immediate relief to patients with breathing issues.
O2 Himalaya, which previously launched canisters that offered 150 puffs, said the latest product will be helpful for tourist visiting areas that are beyond 12,000 ft to save themselves from oxygen shortness or breathing issues. Users can inhale at least 350 puffs by using a mask fitted in the cylinder.
Their latest product is expected to sell well with State Tourism department making it mandatory for stakeholders engaged in high altitude tours to have oxygen facility in their vehicles. “We feel our product, which is small but effective, will be a great product for our stakeholders and tourist alike,” O2 Himalaya co-founder Nitin Rai said at a press conference today.
He added that they are also in talks with concerned authorities in regard to installation of collection booth for used canisters at the identified tourist places. Once the O2 Himalaya receives the approval, they will install booths to deal with the discarded canisters, he added. The materials used in the canister are recyclable.
The O2 Himalaya product received an encouraging response in Pokhra, a tourist hotspot in Nepal, where it was recently launched.
Co-founder Mandira Chettri said their product contains 99% pure Himalayan oxygen. The product has also been approved for medical use.
The conference was also attended by other co-founders Sonam Gelek Bhutia and Sonam Gyaltsen Tenzing.
