GANGTOK,: The Nepali Sahitya Parishad (NSP) Sikkim on Tuesday held a daylong symposium at its building, at Development Area here over the questions arising on Sikkimese Nepali and Sikkimese following the January 13 Supreme Court’s verdict.
Senior advocate and politician Nar Bahadur Khatiwada, senior advocate Zorgay Namkha and advocate Yum Kumar Subba shared their opinions on the apex court’s certain observations that have hurt the public sentiments here. They shared their knowledge on how a judgment is framed based on submissions made by the petitioners and respondents, an overview on the January 13 Supreme Court’s verdict and its impact.
Retired judge Justice AP Subba chaired the symposium attended by prominent civil society members, literary figures, law students and media.
NSP Sikkim president Hari Dhungel placed the welcome address where he shared that the symposium was an effort to seek answers on question posed on the status of Sikkimese Nepali and Sikkimese. He was firm that people cannot seek their rights at the cost of other’s existence.
Remarks and opinions placed by the legal experts and invitees have been recorded by the organisers for documentation. The opinions, remarks and suggestions are being compiled and a February 7 declaration will be made by the NSP Sikkim soon, it was informed.
