GANGTOK,: Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) on Monday started on a trial basis a provision for online booking of SNT busses.
The SNT bus booking portal version 1.0, developed by NIC-Gangtok in collaboration with NIC-Uttarakhand, will presently accept bookings for Gangtok-Siliguri route only.
The portal was launched by Transport minister Sanjit Kharel along with the advisor, chairman, secretary and officials of Transport department.
Addressing media, Sanjit Kharel said, “It is a historic day as the Transport department has started online bus booking portal from today for the convenience of the passengers.”
Launched during the celebration of Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the minister said, “The portal will initially be functional on a trial basis as there are lots of modalities to be taken care of. Once all is set, we will rope in all inter-
State routes in the system. As of now the ticket booking will be done both online and manually.”
Kharel said the department is hopeful of online system benefiting passengers. “With this portal, they need not come to terminus for booking tickets which eventually will save their time, money and decongest the terminus as well.”
He added that passenger can book their tickets through portal 72 hours prior to the scheduled departure. They can also select the seats of their choice, he added.
Furthermore, Kharel thanked chairman and advisor of Transport department, NIC-Sikkim, NIC-Uttarakhand and the officials of Transport department for making this portal a success.
Transport secretary P.N. Sherpa maintained that the portal will be operational on a trial basis where in two buses will be operated, one each from Gangtok and Siliguri, at mornings.
“During trial, we will look for modalities that need to be added or rectified and once it's done we will operate all buses through the portal,” he added.
