Phurba Tamang wins silver medal at Tata Marathon in Kolkata

GANGTOK,: Phurba Tamang, popularly known as the Marathon Girl of Sikkim, has brought pride to the State by securing the silver medal in the 25K Tata Steel Kolkata Marathon held in Kolkata in 25 -29 years age category.

Phurba completed the challenging race with an impressive timing of 1 hour 52 minutes and 27 seconds, a press release informs. She secured the second position ahead of Bandasharai Marwein of Meghalaya, while the first place was claimed by Puja Mondol of West Bengal.

Phurba Tamang, a dedicated athlete, currently serves under the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim. Her success is attributed to rigorous training under the guidance of her coach, Basant Pradhan.

Phurba’s achievement continues to inspire aspiring athletes in Sikkim and highlights her unwavering commitment to excellence in long distance running, the release mentions.
