Sikkim Awards 2022 celebrates inspirational work of 29 achievers

GANGTOK,: With the aim to celebrate and recognize the social deeds and achievements of the people and institutions of Sikkim, the first edition of Nirmala Devi Foundation presents Sikkim Awards 2022, powered by SEED Cell and event partnered by Positude was held at Mayfair Resort, Gangtok on Saturday evening.
Graced by Chief Minister P.S. Golay as the chief guest, Sikkim Awards presented 29 awards and 14 felicitations to various personalities in different aspects of life. The eight jury members for this year’s Sikkim Awards were also felicitated.
Sikkim Awards was also attended by Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker Arun Upreti, Tourism minister B.S. Panth, dignitaries and invited guests.
The Chief Minister congratulated the awardees on receiving the recognition for their hard world and endeavours and motivated them to further strive towards achieving new milestones.
“I hope the Sikkim Awards inspires everyone, especially the younger generation to work towards finding success and attain their goals. I am happy to have met you all and share your joy on being conferred with the Sikkim Awards 2022,” expressed the Chief Minister.
Golay further expressed gratitude towards the organisers for recognizing and honoring individuals from various sectors. “Events like the Sikkim Awards provide opportunities to motivate individuals to work harder and also benefit the State as a whole. The younger generation will also learn from it and will open areas for people to do more social work as social work is humanity,” he said.
The awardees were shortlisted by a jury comprises of educationists Sony Virdi and Dewakar Basnet, senior journalist Joseph Lepcha, TAAS PRO Bikash Gadaily, Entel Pvt Ltd CEO Guru T. Ladakhi, SIKKIM EXPRESS editor Amit Patro, HAS president Jigmee Dorjee Bhutia and Bytesberry Technologies founder Bikash Basnet. The registration form for Sikkim Awards were made available on the official website www.sikkimawards.com and awardees had to self-nominate.
The felicitations were handed over to deserving individuals by the executive body. For homestay and tourism awards, the responsibility was handed over to the Homestay Association of Sikkim (HAS) and Travel Agents Association of Sikkim (TAAS).
Nirmala Devi Foundation, headed by Gajanand Agarwal as the president, is a non-government organization which works in the areas of education for the poor in rural areas, and restoring the basic right of survival to children by providing free education to the poor and underprivileged children and giving moral and financial support to meritorious students in the field of education. Established in 2018, the foundation has also constructed Divya Nirman Khendra, a special school for the specially-abled children at Singtam and is also conducting various social events in North Sikkim.
The pioneer of beauty pageants in Sikkim, Positude is an event management company based in Gangtok, known for ‘Miss Sikkim’ beauty pageant. Over the years, Positude has groomed more than 500 girls from across Sikkim for national and international platforms.
