YUMTHANG,: Sikkim’s Forest and Environment Department on Tuesday concluded its fortnight-long Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2026 – “Leave a Green Legacy” campaign with a high-altitude plantation drive in Yumthang, bringing to a close a statewide environmental initiative focused on public participation in conservation.

The campaign, organised by the Lachung Territorial Range under the Mangan Territorial Division, was observed from July 1 to 14 through a series of public awareness programmes, cleanliness drives and plantation activities across the Himalayan state.

The concluding plantation programme in Yumthang brought together the Pipon of the LachungDzomsa, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Chungthang, officers and personnel of the 20 Mountain Regiment of the Indian Army, 115 RCC, the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF), representatives of AK Builders, Forest officials and local participants.

The campaign formed part of the department’s broader efforts to strengthen environmental stewardship by encouraging community-led conservation and expanding green cover in ecologically sensitive landscapes. The high-altitude plantation at Yumthang marked the culmination of the two-week observance under the theme “Leave a Green Legacy.”
