Temporary Bailey Bridge restores connectivity to Dzongu

MANGAN, (IPR): Under the leadership of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and the guidance of Forest & Environment minister-cum-Dzongu MLA Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, Zilla Upadhakshya Sonam Kipa Bhutia inaugurated the newly constructed extra-wide Bailey bridge at Sangklang today alongside the Commanding Officer of 72 Engineer Regiment, Col. Alok Shankar, and the Officer Commanding of 107 RCC, Major Ram Lakhan Tewatia.

Also present were zilla and panchayat members of Dzongu constituency, GREF, BRO and the public.

The bridge, with a load capacity of 24 tonnes and a span of 180 feet, was built by Trishakti Sappers in collaboration with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). Construction commenced on December 26, 2024 and was completed on January 1, 2025 in record time. It will remain operational until summer, when rising water levels will necessitate its dismantling.

Zilla Adhakshya Sonam Kipa Bhutia highlighted the challenges posed by the region’s difficult terrain and disaster-prone nature. She thanked the Trishakti Corps and BRO for their dedication and emphasised the bridge's role in restoring connectivity between Dzongu and Mangan.

The bridge is expected to have a positive impact on the region, facilitating the transport of goods and improving access to markets and essential services. It will also enhance mobility for residents

Local residents expressed their gratitude the Chief Minister and to area MLA Pintso Namgyal Lepcha and all those who were involved, for addressing a vital need. They stated that although the bridge is temporarily built, it will ease daily life for residents and will play a crucial role in facilitating the success of the upcoming Namsoong festival.
