GANGTOK,: The three-day State-level Tendong Lho Rum Faat 2023 celebration commenced on Sunday with the presentation of culture, traditional cuisine and music at MG Marg here.

Speaker Arun Upreti along with deputy Speaker Sangay Lepcha inaugurated the Yongthoom (open market) traditional stalls at MG Marg, a part of the Tendong Lho Rum Faat celebration.

Celebration committee chief coordinator Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha informed that the State-level Tendong Lho Rum Faat celebration is being held in Gangtok after a gap of 10 years.

Yongthoom, an attraction of the celebration, has 30 stalls where SHGs have displayed their products. It provides a platform for the local farmers and entrepreneurs to promote and sell their products. There are also stalls for the various Sikkimese communities to display their literature and culture.

In his address, the Speaker expressed his happiness to be a part of the inaugural ceremony of Tendong Lho Rum Faat, and extended his greetings to the Lepcha community. He called upon the youth to participate and understand the importance of such traditional festivals for preserving one’s culture. It should be a collective responsibility to preserve and propagate our rich culture, heritage and tradition, he said.

“Celebrating such programmes is extremely important in the current context as it helps new generations to understand and have some basic knowledge about their cultural background. The State government will always respect and do all the needful for every community,” said the Speaker.

The Speaker and other dignitaries made a tour of the stalls at the venue.
