Two Nepali grammar books with inappropriate proverbs withdrawn from Sikkim schools

GANGTOK,: The Education department has withdrawn two Nepali grammar books from all schools in Sikkim following public complaints regarding inclusion of certain inappropriate proverbs.

In a press statement on Thursday, the Education department said it had received letters from concerned citizens and associations with reference to two Nepali grammar books wherein inclusion of certain proverbs is found inappropriate.

Accordingly, the review committee of the department looked into the matter and its report stated that the books – ‘Nepali Madhyamik Vyakaran Ra Rachna’ for Classes IX & X and the ‘Purvottar Madhyamik Nepali Vyakaran Ra Rachna’ for Classes XI and XII were recommended as CBSE reference books and were introduced in all schools of Sikkim in 2009.

Keeping in mind the sentiments of the general public, the department vide its office order dated October 8, 2024, has withdrawn these two books immediately and stopped the further supply of these books, the Education department said.
