58-y-o tourist dies in Lamahatta

DARJEELING, : Fifty-eight-year-old tourist Dipanjan Saha from Hooghly district of West Bengal passed away late last night in Darjeeling. His body was sent back to his hometown today.

GTA health in-charge Rajesh Chauhan said, “A group of six tourists, including Saha, had arrived in Darjeeling by road on Friday. They spent Saturday in Lamahatta and visited various locations in Darjeeling town on Sunday before returning to Lamahatta that evening. They were scheduled to leave for home today.”

“They had arrived in Darjeeling from Hooghly on Friday. The group of six had come here by road and went directly to Lamahatta, where they spent their Saturday as well. On Sunday, they visited different places in Darjeeling town before returning to Lamahatta. They were supposed to head back home by road today.”

Chauhan added, “However, after returning to Lamahatta, Saha fell sick. While being transported to the district hospital in Darjeeling, he passed away. He was pronounced dead by the doctors in the hospital around 8:30 pm."

Following protocol, the police were informed and the deceased's body was placed in the morgue. A post-mortem was conducted today morning. “To assist the family during this difficult time, the GTA provided an ambulance to transport the body back to his home,” Chauhan said.

Babu Biswas, a member of the group, recounted the events, “After we returned to the hotel in Lamahatta on January 5, Saha went to sleep. Later, when we checked on him to ask if he wanted tea, we found him unresponsive. We looked for a doctor in Lamahatta but couldn’t find one. We rushed him to the district hospital in our vehicle. He was pronounced brought dead.”
