CAP takes up Sikkim Urja disinvestment issue with Governor

GANGTOK, : A CAP Sikkim delegation led by party president LP Kafley called on Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhawan on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum over the State government’s decision to disinvest Sikkim Urja Ltd.

Kafley was accompanied by party’s senior functionaries Bharat Basnet, BM Ramudamu, Dawcho Lepcha, Lakpa Sherpa, DB Chauhan, Phuri Sherpa and others, a CAP Sikkim release informs.

In its memorandum, the CAP Sikkim has submitted about its indefinite dharna before Gangtok DAC complex over the Sikkim Urja Ltd disinvestment issue. The party maintained that the State government took the disinvestment decision in a wrong manner to sell the Sikkim Urja Ltd to a private company.

The Sikkim Urja Ltd runs the 1200 Mw Teesta-III hydel power plant which is presently defunct following the Teesta flash flood of October 2023 during which its dam at Chungthang was washed away.

As per the release, the CAP Sikkim stressed that the State government went for disinvestment without discussions in the State Assembly or consultations with the affected people of Mangan district.

The Governor has assured to take up the matter with the Centre, said the CAP Sikkim.

Meanwhile, the CAP Sikkim has constituted an 11-member Parliamentary Council for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Sikkim.

Party president LP Kafley is the chairman of this council with Prashant Babu Chettri as the member secretary.
