KUSH HANG LEEWANG

SORENG, January : Chief Minister P.S. Golay today issued a stern warning to government department heads, stating they could face suspension if they fail to maintain cleanliness in their workplaces.

“Keep your workplace clean or face suspension,” Golay warned, emphasizing that maintaining a clean environment in government offices is the responsibility of departmental heads.

The Chief Minister said that it was “disheartening” to witnesses the poor sanitation facilities in government offices, despite having secretaries and district collectors as heads of departments. He urged a more responsible approach and strict action from departmental heads to address cleanliness issues effectively. “If any office and areas remain littered and unhygienic then the head of the concerned authority of that office or area will be held accountable. For instance, if Jorethang Bazaar is found filthy, the municipal executive officer will be suspended,” he said.

Golay called for cleanliness to be maintained not only in government offices but also in all public and private spaces, to uphold the green and clean image of the State. Stating that cleanliness is an integral part of Sikkimese culture, he urged collective participation from the public to preserve this custom by prioritizing cleanliness in daily life.
