SILIGURI: A Neaplese citizen posing as an Indian Army officer was arrested for involvement in a fake recruitment racket along Indo-Nepal border at Pashupati Market on Friday morning.
In a joint operation by Indian Army’s Trishakti Corps along with local police, Man Bahadur Gurung was apprehended from Pashupati Market under Sukhiapokhari of Darjeeling district.
The initial investigation revealed that Gurung, a resident of Taratal in Pokhara under Bardiya district of Nepal, is a deserter from Nepal Army. Sources informed that he was living in Satyajit Nagar area of Siliguri for some time. The army intelligence had kept him under surveillance for past two months.
Gurung was produced in court of district magistrate and remanded to seven-day police custody for further interrogation.
