Nepali Language Recognition Day celebrated at Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College

GANGTOK, (IPR): The 35th Nepali Language Recognition Day was celebrated today at the seminar hall of Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Tadong, under the aegis of the Department of Nepali.

Senior litterateur and Institute for Transforming Sikkim vice-chairman C.P. Sharma attended the event as the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, C.P. Sharma said that the younger generation has an important role to play in the preservation, promotion and development of the Nepali language, literature and culture. Recalling the long struggle for constitutional recognition of the Nepali language, he emphasised the need for future generations to understand its significance and actively contribute to its preservation and promotion.

He encouraged young people to cultivate the habit of reading, maintain a positive outlook, continuously enhance their skills and remain focused on their goals. He stated that achieving the vision of Viksit Sikkim @ 2047 would require a capable, skilled and future-ready workforce, adding that the Government remains committed to providing the necessary support and opportunities to the youth.

He further stated that building a strong ecosystem for UPSC Civil Services preparation and success is a core goal of Viksit Sikkim @ 2047. He urged the students to make patience, hard work and consistent effort the foundation of their journey towards success.

A panel discussion on the Union Public Service Examination and Nepali as a subject was also organised during the programme. Dr. Tek Bahadur Chhetri, assistant professor, Department of Nepali, Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, served as the moderator. The panel comprised Bhim Rawat, senior journalist and litterateur; Praveen Khaling, senior journalist and poet; Dr. Suchan Pradhan, assistant professor, Khangchendzonga State University; Dr. Ratna Bahadur Rasaily, assistant professor, Khangchendzonga State University, and Priyadarshini Niraula, an ed-tech entrepreneur and founder of Spaced Revision.

During the discussion, students were provided with information and guidance on preparation for the Civil Services Examination, the examination system, effective study methods and other essential aspects of succeeding in competitive examinations.

Young entrepreneur Abhimanyu Dhakal also delivered a special talk on the Union Public Service Examination. He shared insights into the UPSC syllabus, study methods and question patterns, besides sharing his personal experiences of preparing for the Civil Services Examination and clearing the preliminary examination in his previous attempts.

On the occasion, a poetry collection, “First Love”, by the principal of Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Dr. Debabrata Purohit, was released by the chief guest. Dr Harjeet Goswami presented a critical appraisal of the newly released collection.

Speaking about his book, Dr. Purohit said that the poems in the collection were written with students as their central focus. He appreciated the 35th Nepali Language Recognition Day programme organised by the Department of Nepali and expressed confidence that such initiatives would convey a positive message among students and encourage them to contribute towards the preservation and promotion of the Nepali language and literature.

Senior litterateur and Sahitya Akademi Award recipient C.P. Sharma was also felicitated with a traditional ceremonial scarf and a citation in recognition of his notable contribution to Nepali language and literature.

The programme was also attended by faculty members and students of Nar Bahadur Bhandari Government College, Khangchendzonga State University and Sikkim Government College, Burtuk.
