Middle Syari school hosts mentor talk with SE editor Amit Patro

GANGTOK,: SIKKIM EXPRESS editor Amit Patro on Wednesday interacted with students of Middle Syari government primary school near here as a distinguished guest mentor under the school’s School Development and Mentorship Initiative.

Patro, during the mentor talk, emphasised responsible citizenship, effective communication and the importance of pursuing one’s dreams. He also shared insights from his professional journey in journalism and public discourse.

The interaction was aimed at exposing young learners to real-life experiences and encouraging them to broaden their aspirations.

Middle Syari government primary school was established as a standalone primary school in February 2018. The school seeks to provide quality education in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, with a focus on developing competent, compassionate and self-reliant individuals and responsible citizens of Sikkim and the country, the school said.

The school has also received substantial support from the local community. Its 0.360-hectare land was donated by Pem Tshering Tamang, son of late Passang Sherpa of Middle Syari village. In November 2023, Tamang further donated 705 square feet of land for construction of the PM POSHAN kitchen and CSW toilets.

The institution was selected under the Jan Bhagidaari initiative for overall school development in June 2026, under which Swaraj Singhi has adopted the school. The initiative is expected to further strengthen the school’s development and create better facilities and opportunities for its students.

The mentorship programme is part of the school’s broader effort to complement academic learning with exposure, values and practical experiences, while helping young learners develop confidence, social responsibility and a wider understanding of the world around them.
