National Institute of Technology, Sikkim held its 7th convocation ceremony
today at Buddha Park, Ravangla.
Governor
Om Prakash Mathur was present as the chief guest, while Retired Air Field
Marshal Arup Raha, chancellor of Assam University, was the guest of honour.
The
ceremony was presided over by Ramesh Kumar Saraogi, chairperson of the Board of
Governors, NIT Sikkim, a PIB release informs.
Governor
Mathur, in his address, inspired the new graduates to contribute to ‘Viksit
Bharat 2047’ with a spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship and research. He
emphasized the importance of self-belief, integrity and courage in upholding
one's convictions.
NIT
Sikkim director Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil presented a report on the progress
achieved in the past year and future plans, including the anticipated move to
the permanent campus at Dung Dung, Khamdong within the next 3-4 years.
Saraogi
highlighted urged the graduates to make meaningful contributions in science and
technology while remembering the nation’s historical achievements.
Arup
Raha spoke about the value of integrity and encouraged the graduates to
prioritize the nation's welfare.
Nand
Gopal Khaitan, a renowned attorney who was awarded the D.Litt. degree, shared
his optimistic vision for the nation's future and the crucial role of today's
graduates in its development.
The
NIT Sikkim awarded 144 BTech degrees, 1 MTech degree, 9 MSc degrees, 1 Post
Graduate Diploma and 4 PhD degrees.
The
Institute Gold Medal was presented to Anirudh Ghildiyal and the Director's Gold
Medal to Arpit Paul, both from the Department of Electronics and Communication
Engineering. Six Department Gold Medals were also given, recognizing
outstanding academic achievements in various fields, the PIB release mentions.
