DICHEN ONGMU
GANGTOK:
Union Sports minister Kiren Rijiju today launched the India’s first football training app ‘enJogo’ developed by Bhaichung Bhutia Football Schools (BBFS).
Minister Rijiju congratulated the entire team of BBFS for developing the app. “Since everyone is apprehensive about things in pandemic, especially sportspersons, I am confident that this app will help the young talents to maintain their fitness and interests for football,” he said at the onlinelaunch event.
Rijiju also highlighted how the government is working for the upliftment of sports in the country. “We have created five zonal committees who will work as talent scouting through various competitions. Football is a global sport therefore it’s an integral part of the campaign,” he said.
He further added that the government is working towards making India a sports nation. “Football is culture, fitness and gives life a new dimension hence we should not lack behind. We have to reach out to the talents and nurture them. We need to bring in best coaches and also include sports science to enhance the standard of sports.”
At the online launch event, Bhaichung Bhutia spoke about how the app can address a larger issue that exists in the development of football talent,
“When I was growing up, there was not only a lack of infrastructure, but also a lack of good football coaches with the right knowledge to train us. It is one of the main reasons why I started this football academy that can reach out to children across the country. Although BBFS has expanded to more than 20 cities over the last 10 years, it is still not possible for us to physically reach every kid in India and give them the quality football coaching that they deserve. But now with enJogo, we have the ability to cross physical barriers and give every child the chance to learn and practice the game that they love.”
The app, enJogo has a library of workouts with in-built videos of drills with audio instructions that accompany a user while they workout. The workouts are custom made for different ages and skill-levels, and have a built-in mechanism for users to track their performance metrics easily.
Kishore Taid, CEO andco-founder of BBFS, informed that enJogo will provide a structural training and coaching to the footballers. The objective is to reach out to as many kids as possible, he added.
