Sikkim athlete bags silver in national meet

GANGTOK,: Manoj Kami, a long distance runner from Sikkim, has bagged a silver medal in the 1500 m track event of the Indian Open Athletics Meet 2025.

The national athletics event was organised by Bihar State Sports Authority and Bihar Athletics Association at Patna earlier this month.

Manoj came second in the 1500 m run to clinch a silver medal.

The 21-year-old athlete hails from Bongten, Dentam in West Sikkim. He is presently practising with Bright Future Athletic Club, Reshithang, near Gangtok.

The club has expressed gratitude to the Government of Sikkim, Sports department, and the State athletics association. The club also thanked Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd for its support.

A total of 390 athletes from across the country, including players from Indian Railways, ONGC and other government units, participated in Indian Open Athletics Meet 2025. There were sprint events in track namely 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres, 1500 metres, 5000 metres and 10,000 metres race in men and women's category apart from 14 field events namely long jump, triple jump, shot put and javelin throw.
