GEYZING,: Yangthang Tourism Wing (YTW) is set host traditional food and arts festival at Tikjuk, near here from November 16 to 18.
The three-day fest aims to promote rural tourism alongside agriculture in the State.
Addressing a press conference at Geyzing today, the members of YTC informed that the promotion of local cuisine and arts would be the topmost priority of the organizing committee.
YTW president Chandra Tamang shared that agro-based village tourism festival is being initiated at Tikjuk under the patronage and direction of North East Tourism Wing (NETW), and added that the festival would be a platform for endorsement of agro based organic product of Sikkim, traditional cuisines and distinct cultural heritage of Sikkim. She maintained that individuals working in tourism sector have been included for management of tourism festival. Tamang expressed that agro based rural tourism festival would help for greater endorsement and marketing of organic products of Sikkim outside the state and implied that market remained available for Sikkimese products if managed in a proper way. She exerted that organizing committee’s utmost effort would be to utilize food and arts festival as a platform to promote Sikkim as a whole.
YTW advisor K.B. Limboo expressed that food and arts festival could serve as a platform for promoting not only Tikjuk but other surrounding rural areas as well. He also shared about tourism potential of West Sikkim and expressed that tourism sector may play a crucial role to sort out the employment issue in the State. Limboo pitched for necessity of youth participations in tourism sector in a greater way so that the youth get optimum prospects and employment opportunities in the tourism sector.
YTW general secretary Madhu Limboo shared about numerous aspects of traditional food and arts festival. She said that traditional food and arts festival being initiated under the direction of NETW is first of its kinds in West Sikkim and the fest would be a platform to showcase rich heritage of Sikkim in terms of food, agro based products, arts and traditions.
PHE minister and area MLA Bhim Hang Subba and entrepreneur Narayan Khatiwada are the chief patrons of the festival organizing committee which includes individuals working in local tourism sector as members.
