Water sources inspected for West Pendam residents

GANGTOK, (IPR): Urban Development minister L.B. Das inspected a series of locations in and around Tsomgo Lake today to identify prospective water sources to cater to the people of West Pendam constituency and surrounding areas.
The minister was accompanied in the visit by Housing Board chairman Karma Tashi Bhutia, Zilla Panchayat West Pendam TC, Bibek Chettri, Municipal Executive Officer Rangpo, Suren Tamang, panchayat president, Rangpo Nagar Panchayat, Sanjiv Khati, BDO Duga, I.B. Chettri, RO Kyongshala (T), Kailash Sharma, panchayats from concerned regions and officials from UDD, PHE and Forest departments.
The objective of the visit was to inspect new sources of water in and around Tsomgo Lake for West Pendam and adjoining areas.
The quest for new source of water is considered the need of the hour for residents of West Pendam especially the area covering West Pendam, Rangpo MNP and Singtam periphery. Further, it was informed that the State government has recognized various sources of water around Tsomgo Lake such as Yakla, Rong Chu river and Tamchey.
In this context, the Government of Sikkim in accordance with Jal Jeevan Mission scheme has initiated an ambitious project to provide water forty three kilometres from Tsomgo to residents of West Pendam which will provide clean water to two GPUs in West Pendam and one GPU  in Rhenock.
