C.K. Shrestha awarded with first Gorkha Shri national award

GANGTOK,: Eminent literary figure and dramatist C.K. Shrestha was on Wednesday conferred with the first Gorkha Shri national award by Social Engineers Organisation during a function at Kalimpong.

In his acceptance speech, Shrestha drew the attention towards the status and situation of the Gorkha community in India. He mentioned that the issues of Gorkha community should be taken as national issues and addressed at a national level.

Earlier in her address, National Women Commission chairperson Rekha Sharma had urged the Gorkha community to come united with their issues and assured that the issues would be heard.

Shrestha also received a cash award of Rs. 1 lakh along with the Gorkha Shri award from Social Engineers Organisation. He handed over the cash award to the organisation so that it can work further in an organised manner.

Senior litterateur Dr. Harka Bahadur Chettri placed the welcome address. He also raised the issues of Gorkha community saying that the nation should address the issues of the community spread across the country.

The programme was attended by invited guests and representatives of various organisations.
