Banashree Rai wins regional boxing silver

NAMCHI,: Banashree Rai, a class IX student at PM Shree Girls Senior Secondary School, Namchi, won a silver medal in All India Inter SAI Regional Boxing Championship 2024 which concluded Sunday in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Banashree Rai was the lone participant from Sikkim. She faced a boxer from Bhopal Regional Centre on November 5, from Lucknow Regional Centre in the semi-final on November 6 and from Chandigarh Regional Centre in the final on November 8.

Banashree Rai is 14 years old and was among the 12 players representing Guwahati Regional Centre. She has been into boxing since two years of age and is presently receiving training from coaches Mukesh Rai and Subash Tamang in Namchi.

Prior to this championship, she had participated in national sub-junior boys and girls boxing championship in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, and in REC Open Talent Hunt Program 2 held in Guwahati.
