GANGTOK,:
Sikkim BJP president D.R. Thapa on Thursday visited the landslide-affected
Lingzoo primary school at Rabong in South Sikkim and urged the authorities and
road construction company to take immediate steps to restore drainage and
repair the damaged infrastructure.
According
to a press release issued by the State BJP, Thapa, accompanied by party
leaders, inspected the school premises, playground and surrounding areas
following repeated request of local residents to assess the damage caused by
heavy rainfall and a landslide on July 5.
The
delegation also interacted with local residents and other stakeholders during
the visit.
“It
was observed that the heavy rainfall, compounded by blocked drainage during the
ongoing road construction work, had caused extensive damage to the school
building, playground, and nearby cardamom fields, severely affecting both
educational infrastructure and the livelihood of local farmers,” said the State
BJP.
Expressing
serious concern over the situation, D.R. Thapa urged the concerned road
construction company and concerned department to take immediate measures to
restore proper drainage, undertake urgent repairs to the damaged school
infrastructure, and provide appropriate compensation to the affected farmers
for the loss of their cardamom crops, the release adds.
BJP
Sikkim said it would strongly pursue the matter with the concerned authorities
to ensure timely action for the affected residents.
