Departments present inputs for ‘Sikkim Vision @2047’

GANGTOK, (IPR): The second day of the 2nd Meeting of the Executive Committee for preparation of the Vision Document, ‘Sikkim Vision @2047’, was conducted at the mini conference hall of Chintan Bhawan on Friday. The two-day meeting was jointly convened by the Planning & Development Department and the Executive Committee for ‘Sikkim Vision @2047.’

The session was chaired by Emeritus & Chief Economic Advisor to CM-cum-Chairman of the Executive Committee, Prof Mahendra P Lama, with Member ITS Dr Neeraj Adhikari, Member ITS James Saring Lepcha, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Planning & Development Department, MT Sherpa, and Secretary, Planning & Development Department, Tushar Nikhare.

The second day witnessed presentations by heads and representatives of 20 departments, who shared their respective sectoral priorities, existing challenges, long-term goals and proposed strategies for the preparation of the ‘Sikkim Vision @2047’ document.

The presentations collectively covered a broad range of developmental sectors and reflected the State’s approach towards building a comprehensive, sustainable and future-ready development roadmap up to 2047. The departmental inputs focused on strengthening existing systems, improving infrastructure and public services, promoting economic growth and employment, adopting technology and innovation, enhancing institutional capacity, and ensuring inclusive and environmentally sustainable development.

The sectoral presentations provided a comprehensive overview of the priorities and interventions envisaged across different areas of governance and development. The discussions broadly emphasised economic diversification, infrastructure and connectivity, energy security, sustainable mobility, digital transformation, social welfare, human resource development, employment generation, cultural preservation, effective governance and resilience.

The departments also outlined the need for greater innovation, technology adoption, data-driven planning and stronger institutional mechanisms to address emerging challenges and meet the changing needs of the State. Emphasis was also placed on strengthening convergence among departments and ensuring that sectoral interventions contribute towards common long-term developmental objectives.

The presentations formed an important part of the consultative process for preparing the ‘Sikkim Vision @2047,’ with the inputs from various departments expected to contribute towards a unified and integrated roadmap for the State’s development.

The Vision seeks to align sector-specific priorities with the broader objective of building a prosperous, resilient, inclusive, sustainable and self-reliant Sikkim by 2047. The need for inter-departmental coordination and an evidence-based, realistic and implementable approach was also highlighted as central to translating the vision into measurable outcomes.

The presentations were made by the Tourism Department, AYUSH Department, Commerce and Industries Department, Excise Department, DESME Department, Power Department, Roads & Bridges Department, Transport Department, Social Welfare Department, Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Department, Finance & Commercial Taxes Department, Sports Department, IT Department, Science and Technology Department, Mines and Geology Department, Culture Department, Department of Personnel, Labour Department, Law Department, and Buildings & Housing Department.
