Four Sikkim strength lifters have been selected to represent India at the upcoming
13th World Strengthlifting and Incline Bench Press (IBP) Championships 2026 in
Kyrgyzstan, Sikkim Strengthlifting Association (SSA) announced today.
They
are: Pema Dorjee Bhutia, Milan Pradhan, BinuSubba and Sangita Tamang.
Addressing
a press conference, SSA working president Alan Targen congratulated the
selected athletes and wished them success in the upcoming championship. He
described their selection as a proud moment for both the association and the State,
adding that their participation at the international level would bring further
recognition to Sikkim’s strengthlifting community.
Targen
also expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for his
continued support towards the sport and thanked the State government for
providing financial assistance to the athletes.
Pema
Dorjee Bhutia, one of the selected lifters, spoke about the hard work,
discipline and dedication demonstrated by the athletes during their preparation
for the championship. He highlighted the commitment shown by the lifters,
noting that representing the country at the international level is the result
of consistent training, perseverance and determination.
He
praised his fellow athletes for their efforts and expressed confidence in their
ability to perform well at the upcoming championship. Bhutia said the selection
was not only a personal achievement for the athletes but also a proud moment
for Sikkim and the state’s strengthlifting fraternity.
He
further acknowledged the support extended by the Sikkim Strengthlifting
Association and the State government, stating that such encouragement plays an
important role in motivating athletes to pursue higher levels of competition.
He expressed hope that the team would make the State and the country proud
through their performance in Kyrgyzstan.
