NAMO DIXIT
NAMCHI: The incessant rainfall and thunderstorms that lashed south district headquarters Namchi since Wednesday evening choked the drains and caused surface water to overflow at several places.
In areas like Kazitar, the road had water overflowing from the roadside drains exposing the condition of draining system in the town. The dirt and filth from the drains are scattered across the roads alongwith dirty rainwater entering the residential buildings located below the road, local residents who spent sleepless night on Wednesday complained.
Number of blockages in the drains caused due to garbage and debris has led to the condition in Kazitar area where filth and all kinds of debris are swept by the rainwater from car parking plaza, bazaar area and surrounding places.
“When the torrential rain created havoc in the area today afternoon, some field workers from the concerned department were seen working in the drains for sometime which proved futile after they left by just attending the problem,” informed a youth from Kazitar.
The monsoon has highlighted the basic problems faced by the people which needs prompt attention so as to avoid monsoon disasters, the Namchi residents said.
