Soft launch of Sikkim Art and Literature Festival

YUKSAM,: The Sikkim Art and Literature Festival which will kick off on May 6 at Yuksam had its soft opening at Yuksam senior secondary school on Monday.

Students from the schools of Gyalshing and Soreng districts participated in a poetry session and various art and literary activities held on the occasion.

The programme had Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba as the chief guest, Culture department advisor Bhim Kumari Sharma, Education joint director Pema G. Bhutia, SKM students wing president Sonam Chopel Sherpa, general secretary Kabita Sapkota, joint secretary Nosang Muringla, departmental officials and others.

The students also participated in selection trials for different competitions to be held during the festival.

The three-day Sikkim Art and Literature Festival organised by SKM Students Wing in collaboration with Teamwork Arts will see evocative literary discourses, and musical performances.  The festival will have speakers from across the country including eminent literary figures.

The event will also witness discourse on different topics including climate change, wildlife conservation, history, culture and ethnicity, poetry, architecture, folklore, and writings from the North East.

Indra Hang Subba, who is also the chief coordinator of SKM Students Wing, said the festival will help students and as well as teachers to enrich their potential. 

Sonam Chopel Sherpa said, “The young people are engrossed in entertainment and we are as the part of the State government are the organizing the three-day national-level event to inculcate reading habit among the students.”
