GANGTOK,: Chief Minister’s Mentorship Programme,
a winter coaching class for students of class X and class XII, was launched on
December 16 in the conference hall of the Education department.
Education minister Raju Basnet was
present at the event along with Education additional chief secretary R. Telang,
School Education secretary Tashi Chophel, principal director Sonam Denzongpa,
directors, additional directors and all the officers of the department posted
at headquarters who have been assigned the duty of monitoring officers for the
smooth conduct of the programme, informs a press release.
The launch programme was joined by the
chief education officers and other officers of all the six districts along with
school heads, teachers and students of all the 134 centres identified across
the State for this coaching programme. So far, a total of 5,850 students in 134
centers are attending classes and trained teachers are entrusted to take the
classes to achieve the 100% pass percentage in the board exams. The coaching
programme will end on January 25, 2025.
In his opening remarks, the additional
chief secretary emphasized the importance of achieving the target of 100% pass
percentage for class 10 students. He expressed confidence that centres under
the CM’s Mentorship Programme would deliver excellence and ensure student
success. He acknowledged that children often fail due to a lack of supportive
environments and stressed the importance of collective efforts from gram
panchayats, school managing committees, teachers, head teachers, and department
officials to motivate and guide students and to make a conducive environment to
the students.
The Education minister highlighted the
significance of dedication and hard work from all stakeholders, particularly
teachers and centre heads. He encouraged all to maintain high motivational
levels while warning of distractions during the upcoming festive season. He stressed
on creating awareness among the students about the pattern of marks allotted
for type of questions from each chapter, the scheme of the exams and strategies
to improve performances. He suggested to give special focus on subjects like Science
and Mathematics and to segregate the students as per their learning levels for
remedial teaching to achieve the target better. The progress of individual
students must be recorded and the teachers should provide consistent support
and feedback, he said.
He reiterated that the aim of the
program is to achieve the collective goal of 100% pass percentage. He expressed
confidence that through collective efforts, the target would be achieved,
creating an example for the nation.
The school heads shared their readiness
and strategies for achieving the target.
