Bimal needs to give ‘hisab’ for the losses suffered by hills: Thapa

DARJEELING,: Anit Thapa, the second senior-most leader in the Morcha faction headed by Binay Tamang, has warned the West Bengal government not to antagonise a person who wants to work with them for betterment of hills.
Thapa was speaking at a public meeting in Kurseong on Tuesday, two days after hundreds of Bimal Gurung faction supporters attended a similar meeting addressed by Roshan Giri. He was probably referring to the TMC government’s indirect support to the Gurung camp as seen in the apparent comeback being made by them in the hills after three years in wilderness.
“I want to tell the government that I want to do something good for the hills with their support but they should not adopt wrong policies. I want to take the hills forward and generate employment and work for development with the government which I have been doing. They should understand this and not mock a person who wants to work with them for the benefit of the people here,” said Thapa.
The Binay Tamang Morcha faction had organised the public meeting as a response to the Sunday rally and public meeting by the other faction. Hundreds of people were also seen in the rally and public meeting organised by the Binay Tamang camp on Tuesday.
Thapa, in his speech, said the Morcha faction would not stop the leaders of the other group from coming to the hills.
“I will not stop you all from coming to the hills but I will ask you hisab of the loss you did for the future of the younger generations and tourism industry. You all were asking me about the funds used by me but their utilisation papers are intact. I know that the agitation you did for Gorkhaland was done due to fear of audit at that time. The three years that you (Bimal Gurung) stayed in Delhi were from that fund. You all should give hisab to the hills,” said Thapa.
