GANGTOK,: A 12-member delegation of journalists from Chhattisgarh met the Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur at Lok Bhavan here today.
The visit of the media team to Sikkim was organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Raipur. The objective of the visit is to gain first-hand exposure to flagship projects sponsored by the Government of India, infrastructure development initiatives, and strategically significant development works, a Lok Bhavan press release informs.
While interacting with visiting journalists, the Governor commended the role of such media exchange programmes by the PIB in promoting mutual understanding and facilitating the sharing of development initiatives and best practices between regions.
The Governor mentioned Sikkim as a completely organic, green State, plastic free, pollution free, and disciplined traffic State. He said that the people here are very polite, hardworking, and friendly. He further mentioned about the history of Nathu La Pass and other battlefield namely; Chola Pass and Dokan La. He briefed about the 1967 India-China war and pivotal role played by the Lt Gen. Sagat Singh.
The Governor also highlighted the State's environmental initiatives, focusing on sustainable development, conservation, and community participation.
The journalists raised their queries on road and air connectivity, marketing strategy for organic products, and tourism infrastructure. In response, the Governor said that both the central and state governments are working collaboratively to further strengthen these sectors.
During their visit, the media team also toured the Old Lok Bhavan and learned about the transition from British Political Officer’s office in the pre independence to Raj Bhavan, and now Lok Bhavan witnessing the journey of Indian democracy, the release mentions.
