Mega Voluntary Blood Donation Camp by Brahma Kumaris

GANGTOK, : A mega voluntary blood donation camp was organisedtoday by the Brahma Kumaris in collaboration with Ek Haath Ek Saath, Lions Club of Gangtok Greens, and other social organisations here, drawing blood donors from across the State. The camp was inaugurated by Health and Family Welfare Department Chairman Phurba Rinzing Sherpa and remained open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The camp was facilitated by doctors from STNM Hospital, Central Referral Hospital and hospitals from Namchi and Singtham.

Former MLA Krishna Kumari Rai, the chief guest for the event, visited the camp and toured its various segments. She began at the Gyan segment, where participants were briefed about the importance and process of blood donation, before proceeding to the Dhyan segment, where donors were guided through meditation prior to donation. She then visited the Rakt Dan segment, where the blood donation process was underway.

During her visit, Krishna Kumari Rai also paid her respects to Dadi Prakashmaniji and felicitated doctors from various hospitals and blood donors for their service and contribution.

Addressing the media, the former MLA said the mega blood donation camp was organised by the Brahma Kumaris primarily to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the Ascension Day of Rajyogini Dadi Prakashmani ji, while also serving as an annual initiative for the welfare of society. She noted that the programme is part of a nationwide initiative organised by the Social Service Wing of the Rajyoga Research Foundation.

Rai stressed that blood donation is a noble form of service that can provide vital support to people in need. While acknowledging the importance of strengthening blood donation services at the government level, she also highlighted the active contribution of NGOs and social service organisations, saying their efforts have played an important role in meeting the state's requirements.

She expressed gratitude and pride towards the blood donors and appreciated the organisations involved in the initiative. She also extended her appreciation to Ek Haath Ek Saath for its efforts towards Assam flood relief.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Phurba Rinzing Sherpa expressed gratitude to all the contributors, organisers, medical professionals and donors who supported the camp. He described the initiative as not only socially beneficial but also informative, particularly in raising awareness about blood donation.

Sherpa also highlighted the importance of maintaining a network for people requiring blood during emergencies. He referred to a WhatsApp group through which people can connect in cases of emergency blood requirements and noted that blood donated during last year's camp had benefited numerous people.

Encouraging wider participation, Sherpa urged those who were unable to donate blood this year to come forward for future camps. He announced that a similar blood donation camp would be organised next year and encouraged people to participate and contribute to the cause.

The camp witnessed participation from donors from different parts of the State, reflecting the continued spirit of voluntary service and community participation in supporting patients requiring blood.
