Sikkim to host 1st Sikkim Open International Karate Championship

GANGTOK,: Sikkim is geared up to host the 1st edition of Sikkim Open International Karate Championship from 28 to 30 January 2025 here at indoor gymnasium of Paljor Stadium complex. More than 1000 karatekas from Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh and different parts of India are expected to participate in this three-day long championship, which is being organised by Sikkim State Karate-Do Association.

Gyalshing Bermiok MLA Lok Nath Sharma, who is also the chief patron of the championship, released the logo of the championship on Monday.

Speaking to media persons, Sharma expressed that it was a proud matter that Sikkim has geared up to host the 1st Sikkim Open International Karate Championship from 28 to 30 January next year. He added that more than 1000 karatekas from Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and different States of India are taking part.

While congratulating Sikkim State Karate-Do Association for hosting the prestigious event in the State, Sharma urged different companies and institutions, organisations and individuals to come together to support the association for a grand success of the event.

Sharma expressed that such an international-level event would not only encourage young karatekas and youngsters in sports but also help to promote culture, tradition and practices and tourism of Sikkim at the international-level.

He expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister PS Golay for his support and encouragement to the association in hosting this event in Sikkim. He further thanked the CM for his support in promotion of sports and sportspersons at the national and international levels by providing better infrastructures and facilities, cash incentives and other support. He mentioned that the support and encouragement of the CM has been helping local athletes to win medals and laurels at the national and international levels.
